Services for Clients

Therapy Sessions

I am no longer accepting clients

I offer weekly therapy sessions for adults.  My philosophy and approach to treatment is based on my belief that every individual has the ability to heal themselves and they hold the solutions to their own internal struggles and processes. You can read more about my approach here.

In addition to traditional weekly therapy sessions, I offer Extended Therapy Sessions scheduled in full-day increments.  You can find out more about what this entails and if it would be a good fit for you when you call for services.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR was founded on the premise that our physical (somatic) mental and emotional well-being are interconnected.  EMDR employs a body-based technique called bilateral simulation (BLS) in which a trained therapist guides the client through eye movements, tones, or taps in order to move an incorrectly stored memory to a more functional part of the brain.

When a trauma occurs, our brain may process and store memories incorrectly. This incorrect storage can lead to past memories feeling very present. Related or unrelated stimuli in the present can lead to clients reacting as they did at the time of the trauma(s). The brain feels as if the past disturbing event is happening now.

EMDR therapy corrects this so the painful memories associated with the trauma lose their charge and the client can react to stimuli in the present without the past interfering.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is an integrative approach that has been extensively researched and proven to be highly effective for those who have experienced trauma.

EMDR is also cited as an evidenced based practice for the treatment of PTSD, anxiety and depression symptoms.  It is currently being researched for its effectiveness in treating numerous other conditions including eating disorders, pain disorders, stress reduction, phobias, dissociative disorders, addictions and many others.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP)

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a method that draws upon the natural wisdom of the body to tap into the innate drive in all of us to heal, adapt, and develop new capacities.

The effects of trauma, neglect, and abusive or emotionally painful relationships with caregivers are held in our posture, movement, and our nervous systems.  To change these patterns, clients learn to mindfully follow the natural intelligent processes of body and mind.  New information that often remains unnoticed in conventional therapies can be revealed, accelerate healing and lead to more lasting change.

SP can assist in resolving trauma, relationship issues, stress reduction, improve overall health, body awareness, ability to soothe self, social and occupational functioning and improving quality of life. Learn more about sensorimotor psychotherapy.
